HydroPlus GIS

An ArcPad template providing an interface between a Windows/Windows CE computer, multiparameter water quality probe and GPS receiver.

HydroPlus GIS allows water resource managers to record multiparameter water quality data, at user-defined point locations, directly into the GIS. It works with existing data or new data. Point locations can be created using GPS or manually, by touching the screen. HydroPlus GIS reads streaming data from a RS232 serial port and displays the data in a tabular form along with header information. The user can choose which fields to record when creating or adding to the shape file. By tapping the 'write' button the user manually stores selected location and fields to the associated point's attribute table. A Timed Log feature is also available that stores multiple lines of data at a pre-set interval.

Because shape files record an associated .dbf file, it's possible to bring the water quality information into other programs such as Excel, Seveno DataSight or LakeWatch software for further graphing or data analysis.

Features include:

  • Maintains all the functionality of ArcPad 6 software and works directly with industry standard ESRI shape files
  • Can be used on any Windows or Windows CE device that ArcPad 6 supports
  • Continual readout of data from water quality multiprobe
  • Users can create points based on current locations, GPS location, or by simply tapping the touch screen with the current line of multiparameter water quality data appended to it
  • Timed Log-Data is stored automatically at a preset interval until the user stops it
  • Allows for hand-keyed annotations
  • Users can choose which fields get recorded or not recorded within the shape file
  • Allows use of GPS for navigation to relocate point data
  • Writes data to *.dbf format that can be analysed by other software
  • GPS positions recorded with Trimble GPS Receivers can be differentially corrected by using Trimble GPScorrect software
